LANSING, MI — This is being called a historic moment for giving in Michigan, as Cristo Rey Community Center and St. Vincent Catholic Charities have joined forces to create Catholic Charities of Ingham, Eaton and Clinton Counties.
The recent merger addresses the changing and growing needs of the tri-county region, according to those familiar with developments.
“This merger represents our unwavering commitment to enhancing the physical, mental and spiritual well-being of our community and ensuring that essential services continue to thrive,” said Joe Garcia, new CEO of Catholic Charities who served as Cristo Rey CEO since 2013.
The merger reflects a shared vision to create a stronger, more efficient organization that can address the diverse needs of our community, Garcia says. By unifying resources, Catholic Charities IEC will be better equipped to serve all those who rely on their assistance. The group hopes to be able to provide expanded services, streamlined operations and stronger advocacy.
Both charities have been long time mid-Michigan resources for the disadvantaged. Cristo Rey was established in 1968, while St. Vincent was founded in 1948.
